Whenever I read this I am given new hope. It reminds me that no matter what is happening to me or around me, that the Lord is mindful of me and has my best interests in mind.
Also, I think that this is the whole thesis of the Book of Mormon. The Lord chose these people, starting with Lehi's family, to deliver, but it was according to their faith and actions.
Thoughts to ponder:
- How has the Lord shown his "tender mercies" towards me and my family?
- Does the Lord compensate for our weaknesses making us stronger than we really are?
- How can I show more faith?
Dad & I just happened to start reading the Book of Mormon today. And I guess this may just be something to ponder as well, but Dad (Bruce)asked why do you think the Lord had Nephi go back to Jerusalem twice..once for the Brass Plates, and once for Ishmael's family. Why not just go back once?
ReplyDeleteToday in Primary, our lesson was on Zion's Camp. They walked a 1000 miles and didn't accomplish what they'd set out to do. Why did the Lord command them to go try and help others if it was going to be what some would deem as a failure? The most important thing I learned from Zion's Camp was that the Lord asks us to do things and we need to be obedient regardless of the outcome. It is all a trial of our faith to see if we will do what we are asked NO MATTER WHAT!
ReplyDeleteDid God know that Nephi and his family needed to go for both those reasons? Yes. Do you ever wonder what would have happened had Laman and Lemuel not complained? Maybe they would have accomplished both objectives then . . . I don't really know. It is something to think about.
